Department of Labor Issues Reminder about COBRA Subsidy Expiration

The Department of Labor (DOL) issued a reminder that the COBRA Premium Reduction's sunset clause under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) is in effect, so individuals involuntarily terminated after May 31, 2010 are not eligible for the COBRA subsidy and should receive non-ARRA COBRA notices.

DOL Updates COBRA information

The Department of Labor's (DOL) Employee Benefits Security Administration has updated its COBRA Website with the following information to reflect the Continuing Extension Act of 2010.

Assistant Secretary Phyllis C. Borzi of tjhe DOL states, "This extension provides a COBRA premium subsidy for eligible individuals who are involuntarily terminated from employment through May 31, 2010....The new law also provides retroactive eligibility for individuals who lost their jobs after the prior COBRA subsidy expired on March 31, 2010. "
