NEW, REQUIRED I-9 Forms In English and Spanish
The USCIS has released new I-9 forms, effective 6/16/08. Read the Press Release. Download the English form from the CalBizCentral Web site to use for your next new hire. Regarding use of the Spanish form, the USCIS notes:
The Spanish version of Form I-9 may be filled out by employers and employees in Puerto Rico ONLY. Spanish-speaking employers and employees in the 50 states and other U.S. territories may print this for their reference, but may only complete the form in English to meet employment eligibility verification requirements.
The new revised form is to have a revision date of 6/16/08 in the lower right hand corner. When will this one be available? The link above still shows the old "07" revision date.

The prior version of the I-9 Form expired on June 30, 2008. This Form had a revision date on it (lower right hand corner of the Form) that read "Form I-9 (Rev. 06/05/07)N" On or about June 16, 2008, DHS issued a "revised" I-9 Form with an expiration date of June 30, 2009 and a revision date on it that read "Form I-9 (Rev. 06/16/08)N. About a week after issuing this "revised I-9 Form", DHS issued a "re-revised" I-9 Form that had the same expiration date (June 30, 2009), but the revision date was changed back to the 06/05/07 date. The new form reflects the documents acceptable for purposes of employment verification.
